Paul Klee: Music and Theatre in Life and Work

Paul Klee: Music and Theatre in Life and Work

Published by GalerieThomas

Paul Klee (1879-1940) was dedicated not only to the visual arts, but was also to music- to the degree that, initially, he fluctuated between the two. Although the visual arts won, he remained closely tied to music and theatre all his life, playing the violin and attending concerts and opera performances. The present volume vividly presents the considerable influence of music and theatre on his oeuvre. Rhythms and melodies were often incorporated into landscapes and abstract compositions, and many of Klee's figurative scenes are based on the pathos and humour of the stage.
