Bauhaus Saxony

Edited by Olaf Thormann for the GRASSI Museum Leipzig

The state of Saxony occupied a special place in the history of the Bauhaus. In this 592-page work, 50 authors take a first look at the immense plethora of players linking the institution and the state, resulting in a locally-structured catalog which can also be regarded as a Bauhaus travel guide with information on all museums and public collections in Saxony that hold Bauhaus collections. In this exhibition and publishing project, the GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts in Leipzig showcases works by Bauhaus icons, such as Paul Klee, Herbert Bayer, Marianne Brandt, Oskar Schlemmer, Josef Albers and many others. On the 100th anniversary of the founding of the school of design and architecture, Bauhaus Saxony is an indispensable research piece!

This book accompanies an exhibition at the GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts, Leipzig (DE), 18 April to 29 September 2019.
